Lyon County Jail Release Paths
Lyon County Jail is the county's central adult secure detention facility. Its release paths depend on the authority that placed the person there and the event that ends that custody episode. A pretrial detainee may leave on bond, personal recognizance, dismissal, or another court order. A locally sentenced person may leave after time served or scheduled completion. Both are possible community outcomes, but neither answers whether probation or another court obligation continues.

Lyon County Jail Release Timing
The official jail policy says sentenced inmates are processed at approximately 8:00 a.m. on the scheduled date and may be picked up through the front lobby after 8:00. Processing can delay the actual exit. This local practice concerns scheduled sentenced releases and should not be applied to every bond or immediate court-order release.
Bail routing changes with the clock. From 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., bail is posted at the Court Administrator's office on the courthouse third floor. After normal business hours, a person posting bail goes to the jail front lobby and asks for the on-duty sergeant or correctional officer. Personal checks are not accepted. A bondsman is available only when the court order permits that option.
Work or school release follows another process. Participants must meet Administrative Sergeant Gabriel Figueroa before the sentence starts. Without verified school or work paperwork, the person can remain held. Leaving for an approved shift is not a final release from the sentence.

Lyon County Jail History
The present Lyon County Jail began full operations in 2010. It connects to the Lyon County Law Enforcement Center and sits beside the Lyon County Courthouse. That physical closeness can simplify local routing, but the institutions maintain distinct records. The court order is legal authority; the jail record documents custody processing.
Two official sources use different capacity measures. Lyon County describes a designed maximum of 87 beds. The 2024 MNDOC inspection lists approved secure coed capacity at 88 and calculates an 85-percent operational figure of 74.8. Both figures should remain attributed because they answer different facility-planning questions. The inspection approval period runs from December 1, 2024 through November 30, 2026.

Lyon County Jail Custody Scope
The adult jail holds local arrests, pretrial detainees, locally sentenced people, probation or supervised-release violators, people waiting for state-prison transfer, and people held for other jurisdictions. The current report has included arresting agencies such as the Lyon County Sheriff, Marshall Police, Minneota Police, Murray County, and Slayton Police.
The jail operates around the clock, but a release record still belongs to the specific custody episode. Jail Administrator Brad Marks, Administrative Sergeant Gabriel Figueroa, and Program Sergeant Michael Sumerfelt have different facility roles. General release confirmation should begin with Jail Reception or Records rather than assuming that an administrator's office maintains a separate public lookup.
An arresting-agency label does not identify the final releasing authority or transfer destination. It also does not prove a particular contract arrangement for a named person. Read the booking and release records before assigning responsibility. Prairie Lakes Youth Programs is an out-of-county juvenile placement and does not become a second adult Lyon County facility or public youth-search route.
A person transferred to MNDOC may later appear in the statewide Public Viewer while under state jurisdiction. A federal or immigration hold needs the relevant federal source. The Lyon County Jail record remains the source for how the local custody episode ended.
Lyon County Jail Release Invoice
Lyon County charges convicted inmates $20 per day under its pay-for-stay policy, including credited days. The invoice may be mailed or handed to the person at release. This financial step is separate from the court disposition and can remain after physical custody ends.
The county requires payment or payment arrangements within 30 days. A written waiver request must reach the sheriff or jail administrator within five days after release or receipt of the invoice. If the person makes no payment or contact after the stated 30-day period, the county says the account goes to collections. Those local deadlines should be read from the current policy before action is taken.
